Aerobic Old School

Madonna's playing at the Padres' ballpark tonight, but she's not the first thing I associate with "aerobic old school." Neither is Flashdance, which I never saw during the '80s, and while my mom's favorite movie was Footloose, she didn't show it to us till we were teens (because of the language). I used to call the sounds on this playlist "Jazzercise" music. It's synthesizers (meaning totally '80s), but also urban, upbeat, and happy (call that gay, if you must - but what I mean is that you just can't hear this and stay sad). I was first exposed to songs like "Tell It To My Heart" by Taylor Dayne (see below) and "Nasty Boys" by Janet Jackson (sorry, not included) on the 1987 Disney TV special, Totally Minnie, which featured the guy from Revenge of the Nerds getting lessons on hipness from Suzanne Somers. San Diego has a radio station, Magic 92.5 (stream it here), that calls itself "old school" and that's what made me realize the rest of the world already has a term for "jazzercise" music.
