My iPod by the Numbers

I bought the 30GB iPod Video (but I haven't had room for videos since I first got the thing) back when it first came out and I paid more than the 160GB costs now. Pretty depressing, but like a computer, they say they're outdated every five years anyway and I am at the end of my fifth year with mine. If and when I ever get another, I'll probably use it more for TV shows. I strictly organize by 18 genres (my screen shows nine rows at a time, so for obsessive-compulsive people like me, that's exactly two screens of scrolling) and I'm constantly having to change the default genres of music I rip or download to fit with my system. I have exactly 50 playlists, mostly made up of subgenres and each fitting perfectly on an 80min. CD. Call me crazy but I can go from any song to any other song in five seconds or less because I know where everything's located and my playlists provide hundreds of shortcuts.

Books & Spoken - taken off my iPod way back, along with Pixar shorts and photos

Children's, Classical, Folk, Humorous, Opera, Religious, Showtunes - 1GB combined

Christmas - 1GB (200 songs) which is currently not on my iPod

Electronic - 7GB (1500 songs) from synth pop to techno to electroclash to glitch

Hip Hop - 2GB (400 songs) from Afrika Bambaataa to MC Solaar to Z-Trip

Jazz - 1GB (200 songs) from ragtime to Dixieland to bebop to cool

Pop - 4GB (1000 songs) which for my purposes I define as everything else

R&B/Soul - 2GB (500 songs) from doo-wop to disco to funk to New Jack Swing

Reggae - 1GB (200 songs) from calypso to ska to dancehall to ragga

Rock - 7GB (1500+ songs) from boogie woogie to psychadelic to punk to nu-metal

Soundtracks - 1GB (400 songs) from the big screen to seminary videos to TV shows

World - 1GB (200 songs) from Africa to Brazil to Ireland to Japan

OUT TODAY ON DVD: THE (ORIGINAL 1951) DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (2-Disc Special Edition, in anticipation of the Keanu Reeves remake)
