New Order Is As Old As My Middle Brother

I learned this week that my all-time favorite band has broken up for good. The last release was the Live in Glasgow DVD and they recorded a few bits of score, each around a minute long, for the black and white biopic, Control. This gives a little more weight to a top 20 songs list, knowing that there might not be any future additions or revisions. As long as I've bought CDs, I've turned around and made mixes with my very favorite songs from my very favorite artists. Blank cassettes allowed for longer mixes and I could fit more than 20 songs on a tape. Now I burn mixes on 80min. CDs and sacrifices must sometimes be made to "official" top 20 song lists. What you'll find below are my "official" personal favorites from New Order, revised and uncensored (surprising to me, the ordering and selected tracks are quite a bit different from the New Order mix CDs I made a few years back to keep in my car):

1. "Ceremony" (1981) "Joy Division created the song, with lyrics written by Ian Curtis. There are two recorded versions of the song by Joy Division. The first available, on the Still album, is from their final concert at High Hall, Birmingham University on May 2, 1980, sixteen days before Curtis' suicide. The second, available on the Heart and Soul four-disc box set is from a rehearsal tape made in April/May 1980. In both recordings, the vocals are only partially audible." (Wikipedia)
