20 Questions for My Wife

By way of introduction, I'll include the first things that come to mind when I think of my wife. First off, she's the best soul I know, and by that, I don't mean to offend any of the other women in my life, but to it bluntly, she doesn't gossip, busybody, backbite, dislike children or the elderly, talk down to the mentally challenged, act superior, or judge others. She's just naturally good, without even the appearance of effort. Secondly, she's quiet and shy and that's good for me. The world has too many bossy, loud, opinionated people (myself included) but the things she does like she's silently and solemnly faithful to. She almost decided against dating me because of my vocal disdain for Broadway musicals. I'm coming around at my own pace though. She and I are different when it comes to video games (she's for and I'm against), fashion sense, and cats versus dogs (the perfect pet to me is a fish). What we share in common is that we both hate bananas and we both love the smell of hotel beds. I've never met anyone else like my wife and I don't think I ever will.

1. What is your first memory? I have a few early memories...I don't know which of them came first. I remember scribbling on the wall with a crayon and it never came out. I remember my mom telling me how old I was and I was so proud that I knew I was three. And I remember going trick or treating in (my birthplace), but I'm not sure how old I would have been.

2. What was your worst subject in grade school? Math or Science. I guess I'm not too logical.

3. Do you prefer fiction or nonfiction books and why? I like both. I love getting caught up in a good story - I think I mostly just like children's or young adult fiction books. As for nonfiction I'll read about anything that interests me. I just finished reading New World Kids, about helping your kids discover their individual creative abilities.

4. What did you do in your spare time before the internet came along? I read and played video games.

5. Would you rather have become a concert pianist or a principal dancer? Principal dancer. I don't think I had what it takes to become a concert pianist.

6. How important do you think a person's body type is for ballet? Ballet has a certain image, in which you must maintain a slim appearance. That said, if someone doesn't have the "typical" body type, but is an amazing dancer with a spectacular stage presence, I'd be more than happy to watch him or her dance.

7. When was the last time you strapped on in-line skates and why has it been so long? The last time was probably when we were first married. It's been so long because I was afraid of breaking my ankle while I was still dancing. And now that we have a child it seems like I don't have the time or the energy. Plus, I'm terrified of wheels. That doesn't mean I'll never strap them on again though.

8. What's your favorite body part on yourself and why? People tell me I have nice eyebrows. And I guess I kinda like my arms.

9. What's your favorite type of cuisine and why? Whatever I'm in the mood for. I like everything, especially Sushi, Greek, Spanish Tapas...really, I just like food.

10. What's your least favorite household chore and why? Cleaning the shower/tub. It gets dirty too fast and there's always bits of hair to deal with. Yuck!

11. Before you got married, how many kids did you want? Two.

12. If you could go back back in time and see either of your parents at any age, which would you choose, at what age, and why? I'd like to see if my mom was anything like me as a little girl.

13. What was your first impression of me, your spouse? I thought you were a genuine, nice and attractive person who everybody wanted to be friends with.

14. What was your first paid job? If you want to count the time I counted car parts at Carter Honda for one day during high school, go for it. If not, I guess it was when I wrote for Red Magazine in college.

15. What was the last good laugh you had? Probably at something silly that (our son) did. My sister's description of a recent baby/parenting class she went to was pretty funny too.

16. What's your zodiac sign and what does it mean to you? I'm a Pisces. The zodiac description of my sign fits me to a "tee." I like my sign. I enjoy being a quiet, daydreamer who believes that the fairies at the bottom of the garden are real.

17. If you could afford any vacation, where would you go and why? So many places. I want to go to Australia, and I want to do a three city tour of New York, Washington D.C. and Philly and look at all the American historical sites. I want to go back to Europe someday but right now I would really love to go on a cruise to Disneyworld.

18. What's the first question you'll ask God face to face? Does the Sasquatch really exist?

19. If you could choose to know the date and cause of your death, would you want to and why (or why not)? As tempting as it is, I would not choose to know because I don't like thinking about death.

20. Who was your childhood hero and why? I didn't really have hero. I liked the kids from Ghostwriter a lot, though. And Roald Dahl.
