20 Question's for My Mother-In-Law

By way of introduction, I'll include the first things that come to mind when I think of my mother-in-law. First off, she taught my son how to do "raspberries" with his lips. For the longest time, whenever we showed him a picture of her or said her name, that's what he would do. Secondly, she's one of the "youngest" people I know. By that, I don't mean open-minded, immature, or a dreamer. I like that she wears baseball caps. I think it's funny how she sleeps in really late. She's made me a lasagne to rival my own mother's recipe. I didn't ask her any questions about being a nurse below, but I have asked her medical questions in the past and I trust her answers. I'm grateful she supported her daughter in marrying me. Last but not least, she likes cats, cosmetic products and white wine.

1. What was your first address and phone number that you memorized? When I was in kindergarten living in Scarborough, ON, I must have remembered my street address, but I have no idea what it is now. One of my old addresses that I still remember is 120 Niagara Street in Winnipeg. It was my first house and I loved the feeling of being a homeowner.

2. Which of your grandparents did you know and what do you remember about them? I knew my grandparents on both sides, but my mom’s parents I knew a little better. My grandmother on my dad’s side was very cheerful and my grandfather on my dad’s side was quiet and loved to read his Bible. Both sets of grandparents attended church every Sunday. My mother’s parents were close to me. My grandmother liked knitting, cooking, sewing and going to church. My grandfather loved reading geography books and he was an avid stamp collector and corresponded with other collectors around the world.

3. What’s your zodiac sign and what does it mean to you? My zodiac sign is Aquarius. I’m said to be interested in futuristic topic and believe in freedom. I’d agree, but I’m not seriously involved in astrology.

4. Who was your best childhood friend? My best childhood was Barbara. We would play together every day after school outside (both Winter and Summer).

5. What was your worst childhood fear? I was always afraid something bad was going to happen – either to me or my family. I would think about dying of Cancer and would have trouble sleeping because I would lie awake worrying about it.

6. In your lifetime, which decade has had the best pop culture? The best decade for pop culture was the '80s - the crazy big hair, the music, the clothes, the early video games, movies (The Breakfast Club, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Flashdance).

7. What countries have you visited and which was your favorite? The countries I have visited include the USA, England, Canada, Belgium, Holland, France, Lichenstein, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Russia, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Australia, China, Macau, Hong Kong (when it was a colony) Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Cuba, Mexico, Bahamas. My favourite is Switzerland because it’s beautiful, peaceful, near the mountains and it has little villages that look like something from a fairytale. I love the Swiss chalet cottages with the flower baskets and the cities of Geneva and Zurich which are clean, beautiful and safe. I love the fantastic food, coffee and chocolate.

8. If you had to be born in a different culture, which would you choose and why? Hmmm...I would not want to be born in a different culture at all. Most cultures are not good for women – ours is the best by far. If I had to, I would chose a culture in Europe - maybe Italy, because the people are so warm and Italians love their mamas!

9. Which TV channel do you watch the most and why? I watch CNN pretty regularly and CBC news for updates on what’s going on. I also like to watch FOX – especially So You Think You Can Dance and other fun shows!

10. Who is the best looking celebrity to you and why? I don’t see any of today’s celebrities as good looking. I prefer the old movie stars like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly –they had beauty AND class.

11. Where was your first kiss and how old were you? I was 14 and on my first date. It was an older boy who had invited me to a dinner and dance. He picked me up in his car and afterwards, drove me home, walked me to my door and then, he leaned in for a kiss. I was not expecting it and gave him a shove, which made him stumble –he nearly fell down my front steps! I quickly ran inside and peered out through the glass to see him stomping across the walkway toward his car, ripping up the tickets to the event. It was my one and only date with him.

12. Do you still have your tonsils and if not, how long has it been? I still have my tonsils

13. Do you prefer your toilet paper to roll over or under and why? I have no toilet paper roll preference. However, if the TP has a design on it, it looks better rolled over because you can’t see the design if it’s rolled under.

14. What is your favourite holiday and why? My favourite holiday is New Year's Eve because it’s very festive (with lights, sparkles music, dancing and fun!). I like to imagine that the new year will be better than the previous one and I enjoy going out and celebrating.

15. Describe the best photograph that’s ever been taken of you? The best photograph of my is my university graduation photo. The lighting was good and my hair was very shiny.

16. What was the last movie you watched and what did you think about it? The last movie I watched was Angels and Demons –I like this better than The Da Vinci Code, which was boring at times. I liked the ending, but I had already figured it out during the movie.

17. If you had to do one or the other would you choose to bike or swim and why? I would choose to bike, because I don’t like swimming. I hate getting my hair wet and chlorinated water in my eyes. I only like walking in the water along the sand. Plus, I don’t like being in the sun - I only like to go to the beach in the evening.

18. How did you feel when my son was born? The first feeling I had was relief. I was worried about pain issues and whether there would be problems. Knowing that he was healthy and that it was over, was a big relief. The next feeling was that I would really like to see him.

19. What’s the best recipe that you make? My daughters say that I make the best honey/vanilla ice cream and blackberry cake.

20. How did your fascination with outer space come about? I used to read about outer space as a child and I was always interested in astral planes and time travel. When I was a child, there was a lot of hype about space travel and spaceships. That whole era was concerned with space. I was fascinated and used to have many dreams about travelling to other planets. I still believe in time travel and I think we can go back and relive our experiences some day. (and perhaps change them). However, I would want to be aware that I’m going back in time. I sometimes think that we are time travelers at present, but are unaware of it. I believe that if we can move forward in time, we can also move back.
