These songs are the ABSOLUTE best songs I have come across in the last couple of months. I GUARANTEE they're all worth downloading, and for each artist featured, there are many more songs to check out. Don't get bogged down by the sheer volume of artists though - each one is different from the rest, so variety is the spice of this playlist:
1. "Believe (feat D'Angelo)" - Q-Tip; this year's best rap track that you probably missed
2. "Crystal Stilts" - Crystal Stilts; goth rock meets surf rock - why didn't I think of that?
3. "Day In - Day Out (Produced By Cut Chemist)" - Nat "King" Cole; this is what it feels like to fall in love
4. "Feel.Love.Thinking.Of. (Mexicans with Guns)" - Faunts; one of those rare instances where the remix beats the living crap out of the original version
5. "Great Things" - Echobelly; band I somehow managed to miss on my "Brit Pop & Shoegaze" playlist (10/17/08)
6. "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" - Scissor Sisters; I first heard the "Linus Loves Remix" on the Thrivemix Presents Electro compilation; when I finally heard the original version on How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, I thought the remix was of a recent cover and the original was a '70s throwback; not the case, it's just Elton John on pianos
7. "In Sympathy" - Depeche Mode; best song from their new album, Sounds of the Universe
8. "Just a Touch of Love" - Slave; best syncopation ever
9. "Little Shadow (Acoustic Version)" - Yeah Yeah Yeahs; I love orchestral arrangements of rock/pop songs
10. "Love Etc. (Frankmusik Star & Garter D)" - Pet Shop Boys; another of those rare instances where the remix beats the living crap out of the original version
11. "Magic Morning" - Monsters At Work; Pee Wee's Playhouse theme song meets Hawaiian spa retreat
12. "Mandolin Rain" - Bruce Hornsby & The Range; last year I rediscovered the Hollies and Frankie Valli; this year I've rediscovered Siouxsie & the Banshees and Bruce Hornsby and it's all gold
13. "Me Plus One (Rapture Remix)" - Annie; Norwegian "indietronica" about former Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell
14. "My Baby Don't Breathe" - Omar & The Stringpoppers; the Cut Chemist remix of Nat "King" Cole (see above) prompted me to finally buy the Cut Chemist compilation, Lost and Found: Rockabilly, Jump and Blues, where this and other oldies can be found
15. "Red Star" - Third Eye Blind; even without the original lead guitarist, Kevin Cadogan, 3eb have an effect over me unrivaled by any other recent rock band
16. "Slope" - B. Fleischmann; I love bells, chimes, sleepytime music and weird synthesizer noises, like the Predator-sounding clicking here
17. "So Much (Music)" - Madlib; soulful vocal snippets over a dubby beat
18. "Steppin' Razor" - Peter Tosh; I'm always interested in hearing where Sublime got its inspiration
19. "What's In the Middle" - The Bird and the Bee; another sleepytime song with clever lyrics
20. "Which Song" - Max Tundra; like Prince meets White Town
